Salvatore “Sal” Coniglio has taken over the management of the Recology operation in Butte County, replacing longtime manager Joe Matz. Previously in the Bay Area, Coniglio arrived at the Oroville Recology base in March, after 15 years in the waste industry including 10 years with Concord Disposal. He told this newspaper that Matz, who had been in Oroville about 20 years, had been reassigned to the Los Angeles area to help with a new acquisition for Recology. Coniglio said his experience in the Bay Area was much like Matz’s here, with lots of interaction with the community and local organizations and businesses. “My job is to take over where Joe left off, to keep the relationships going and build new ones.” Coniglio said his wife and three children are still in the Bay Area but will be moving up soon. Other than the recent changes approved by the county, there shouldn’t be any other kinds of changes for the moment, he said. He noted he has a bachelor’s degree in leadership and organizational studies from Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga. “It’s everything I thought it would be,” he said of the new job. “It’s a good team, with lots of energy”.
